Summer 2010 Programs Announced (Feb 8th 2010)

Eagle Fustar players dominate Sectionals (June 21st, 2010) - PDF Press Release

Eagle Fustar Player posted winning results across all age groups and in both singles and doubles at the recent Norcal Sectionals held June 14-19th in several Bay Area and Santa Cruz county locations. As California’s largest junior event, the road from the first match to the final is typically long, spanning across six consecutive days.

In Boys 18s, Eric Johnson was back in top form in his final over Fresno’s Nick Papac, taking home the towering gold trophy after a 6-1, 6-1 finish. After defeating UCSB’s Max Glenn 6-4, 6-2, Eric faced fellow EF Full-timer and pal Suresh Eswaran in the semi final round and came out on top again 6-4, 6-2. In the quarterfinals, Suresh had defeated SCU’s Eugene Muchynski 6-4; 2-6; 6-2, and claimed the 4th place finish in the B18s.

For David Hsu, it started with a win over another unseeded player in the round of 128. But from the next round, it was nothing but seeded players on the horizon for David. From the round of 32 in the B16s draw, David Hsu was the lone name in blue in a sea of red ink.  David battled his way through seed after seed, and in the end had taken victories from six of them, including #1 Brandon Sutter, and # 4 Justin Chan, on his way to the final showdown with #2 seed,  Andrew Ball. In an exciting three setter, David took his name in blue ink and his place on the winner line in the draw 6-4; 2-6; 6-4.

Eagle Fustar girls shined with G12s Catherine Bellis barely breaking a sweat to take home the top prize. When she walked toward the net to shake hands after the 6-0 6-0 win in the final match, she had won 48 games and lost only 4 on her way to the to the title of Norcal Sectionals G12s Winner.

In G14s and G16s respectively, EF Full-timer Daphne DeChatellus and Kennedy Davis, brought home 4th place finishes.  Also in G16s, EF Full-timer Hadley Berg won the back draw securing her 5th place finish. Summer Garrison brought home the same win of the G12s back-draw, while netting the winner trophy for Girls 12 Doubles with partner Eirene Granville.

The Eagle Fustar coaching staff would like to congratulate these EF players for the great results, and recognize the dedication and hard work of all EF players on our courts everyday, and on tournament courts everywhere.

WTA Player Jelena Pandzic training with the Eagle Fustar Full Time Program (Feb 1st 2010)

PDF Press release

Croatian tennis professional Jelena Pandzic has chosen Eagle Fustar Tennis Academy as her American base to launch another assault on the WTA tour.

In 2007 Pandzic was the biggest mover on the WTA tour winning 4 straight $10,000 women’s tournaments and going on a 26 match winning streak. Her ranking sky rocketed from no ranking in May 2007 to finishing the year ranked 262. The Split native reached a career high of 136 the very next year after qualifying and winning a round at Roland Garros eventually falling to top 10 player, Agnieszka Radwanska.

After her 2009 season was cut short due to a calf injury, Pandzic had to endure many months of rehabilitation but is now fit and healthy and ready to take the court once again.

Pandzic will be training in the newly created Eagle Fustar Full Time Program which is the brain child of Academy owner Nick Fustar. Re-uniting with former trainer and new academy head coach Greg Shearer, Pandzic will be working with Shearer, Fustar and Director of Junior Development, Ogidi Obi, to once again reach the heights she achieved just over a year ago.

“We are really pumped to have a player of Pandzic’s quality training with us,” said Eagle Fustar Academy owner, Nick Fustar. “I’m really excited about the direction our Full Time Program is going and having Jelena involved is going to boost the quality of what is already developing into the premier program for serious tennis players in Northern California.”

The Eagle Fustar Full Time Program is based at the tennis center on the Santa Clara University Campus, and trains all week from 8:30-2:00pm with daily fitness sessions from 2-3pm. In addition to the Full Time Academy, Eagle Fustar offers training clinics seven days/week at three locations in the Bay Area for beginners through advanced juniors.
